Condition

Good overall condition. The cracks on the right hand side columns and on the people have been restaured. Some repaints scattered on the sky. The painting is slightly pinker than the photo.

Catalogue Note

Cet artiste belge, élève de Ferdinand de Braekeleer, van Brie et Gustave Wappers, voyagea en Turquie, en Egypte et en Nubie. A son retour à Anvers il devint professeur à l'Académie des Beaux-Arts d'Anvers. Un tableau égyptien de Jacobs, Ruines du temple de Carnac, daté 1856, est conservé  dans les collections royales belges (reproduit dans le catalogue de l'exposition le Romantisme en Belgique, Musées Royaux des Beaux-Arts, Bruxelles, 18 mars-31 juillet 2005, p.138, n°144).
