Condition
Relined. Few cracks. Some repaints in the background and along the edges. One repaint on the old man's cheek. It is possible that glazes has been added in places in the background and on the people.

Catalogue Note
Edouard Verschaffelt découvrit l'Algérie vers 1919 et s'installa définitivement à Bou Sâada en 1923. Après la mort de sa première femme, il épousa une jeune fille de Bou Sâada avec qui il eut deux enfants qui allaient très fréquement lui servir de modèles. La fillette représentée sur notre tableau est probablement sa fille.
