Né en Autriche, Tony Binder découvre l'Egypte en 1890. Enthousiasmé par ce pays, il décide de s'y installer, gagne sa vie comme photographe et commence à dessiner et à peindre, principalement des vues d'Egypte et des portrais. Ne réussissant pas à vivre uniquement de sa peinture, il continue son métier de photographe jusqu'à la fin de sa vie.
