Condition

Dirty, needs cleaning. Thin cracks on the surface visible on the photo; some cracks are filed in. The painting is much pinker than the photo (probably sunset). Old restoration in the middle (patches on the reverse) very few minor repaints.

Catalogue Note

Caractéristiques du style de jeunesse de Fromentin, les couleurs et le format très en longueur de ce tableau se retrouvent dans la plupart des compositions exécutées après le second voyage de l'artiste en Algérie (1852-1853). Dans ces oeuvres il cherche à insister sur l'immensité des paysages.

Accompagné de la gravure, lithographiée par Célestin Nanteuil, dédicacée et signée A mon père, Eugène, (Impression Bertauts, Paris) 29.5 x 42 cm.
