Condition

Good overall condition. Small scratches along the edges specially on the Confidence. Small lack on the face of the Sultane. Many dots visible on the edges of the two.

Catalogue Note

Ce sont des gravures en contrepartie avec variantes, d'après deux tableaux de Carle van Loo conservés au Musée de l'Ermitage de Saint Pétersbourg. Ces deux tableaux Une sultane prenant du café, représentée sous les traits de Madame de Pompadour et Deux sultanes travaillant à la tapisserie étaient des dessus de porte, commandés par la marquise de Pompadour pour sa chambre dite "A la Turque" au château de Bellevue. Les tableaux furent exposés au Salon de Paris en 1755 (cf catalogue de l'exposition Carle van Loo premier peintre du roi, Nice, Clermont Ferrand et Nancy 1977, page 76)
