An 18th century copy after Dolci's original design, of which there are three known versions, the present work is a copy after the version in the Collection of the Earl of Plymouth, Oakley Park, Shropshire (see F. Baldassare, Carlo Dolci, Truin 1995, pp. 112-6, cat. nos. 83-6, reproduced).
