Catalogue Note
Little is known of Heeremans's early training, but he is recorded as being accepted into the Guild of Saint Luke in Haarlem in 1664. His style is very much influenced by the slightly older Haarlem landscape painter Klaes Molenaer (before 1630-1676). It is most likely that Heeremans travelled to The Hague in 1675, and would have visited the pleasure beach of Scheveningen at this point, as is suggested by the comparable view which was sold in Sotheby's, New York, 13 October 1989, lot 249A for $15,000, and which was signed and dated "TMANS. 1675 terHAide".
