Catalogue Note

The subject is taken from Luke, chapter 16 verses 19-31, and is a parable upon the futility of riches. The rich man, Dives, would feast every day in his palace and dress in finery, while the poor Lazarus lay starving outside begging for the crumbs of his table, with the sores on his legs were being licked by dogs. Upon their respective deaths Lazarus was raised to Abraham's Bosom, while Dives was cast into hell.
