- oil on panel, a fragment
Provenance
With Galeria Caretto, Turin, 1986, from whom acquired by the present owner.
Exhibited
Turin, Galeria Caretto, 27a Mostra Maestri Fiamminghi ed Olandesi del XVI e XVII secolo, Winter 1986, no. 7.
Condition
The single flat panel is uncradled. There is a horizontal crack which runs from the right edge of the panel to the centre about 15 cm from the upper edge. The paint surface is generally secure and under a discoloured varnish. Some scattered discoloured retouchings are visible to the naked eye. Inspection under UV light reveals retouchings to the crack and other details scattered throughout. There is either a restored split or major crack running horizontally 5 cm from the lower edge which suggests that much of this lower section has been subsequently repainted. Offered in a later wooden frame in fair condition with some very minor knocks.
