Description

  • Philippe de Champaigne
  • Portrait of a Anne-Marie de Chevreuse, full length, holding a falcon aged five years old
  • oil on canvas, unlined, in a carved and gilt wood frame

Condition

The canvas has a relining which has not overly flattened the canvas. The paint surface is generally sound and there is some cracquelure but the paint surface is secured by a thick, slightly discoloured varnish. Despite the thick varnish, scattered retouchings are visible under UV light, although the varnish impedes thorough inspection. Offered in a carved and painted wooden frame with some losses on all sides.
