Description

  • Theodoor Rombouts
  • David and Abigail
  • oil on canvas

Condition

The canvas has been relined. The paint surface has begun to flake in some areas due to the cracquelure and in some areas it has lifted altogether. There are some vertical lines of paint loss, perhaps caused by the stretcher after the painting was relined. There is a restored T-shaped tear upper left above Abigail's head. There are scattered retouchings and restorations although thorough inspection under UV light is impeded by the varnish. Offered in a gilt wood frame with metal embellishments on the corners, one of which is missing.
