Description

  • Sir Peter Paul Rubens
  • The Conversion of Saul
  • oil on canvas

Condition

The canvas has been relined. There is a C-shaped tear of approx 10 by 10 cm. lower right. The canvas has somewhat come away from the relining and is buckling up on the right hand side. The paint surface is very abraded on the right hand side and appears to have been affected by the damp. There is a restored undulating damage centre left. Scattered retouchings are visible to the naked eye but the varnish prevents thorough inspection under UV light. Offered in a painted wooden frame with some losses.
