Description

  • Salvator Rosa
  • A coastal landscape
  • oil on canvas

Condition

The canvas has been relined. The paint surface is largely stable and the cracquelure is secured by a thick varnish which is a little yellowed. There are appear to be some retouchings, particularly to the sky, although the varnish renders thorough examination under UV light impossible. The signature J Vernet, lower right, clearly fluoresces under UV light as a later addition. Offered in an elaborate carved and gilt wood frame.
