Catalogue Note

The composition derives, in reverse, from Francesco Trevisani's painting of The Holy Family with Saints Anne and Joachim in the Oratory of the church of Santa Maria in Via, in Rome. The figure of Saint Anne is particularly similar to that in Trevisani's painting (see European Paintings of the 16th, 17th and 18th Centuries: The Cleveland Museum of Art Catalogue of Paintings, Part Three, Ohio, 1982, p. 445, figure 193a).
