Description

  • Christian Georg Schütz the Younger
  • a river landscape, a village to the left and a bridge in the foreground;a landscape with a mill and peasants fishing in the foreground
  • a pair, both oil on canvas, unlined

Condition

The canvases are unlined. The former painting has two small patches to the reverse, one in the upper left corner and one in the lower right corner, where small holes have been restored. Both paintings have fine cracquelure throughout which is secured by a somewhat discoloured, thick varnish. Both paintings also have some stretcher damage along the edges. Both paintings have some scattered discoloured retouchings throughout visible to the naked eye and particularly noticable in the sky, although thorough examination under UV light is prevented by the varnish. The lots are offered in wood and plaster frames with some knocks and paint losses.
