Description

  • Nicolas de Largillierre
  • Portrait of a gentleman, half length, wearing a red cape
  • oil on canvas

Condition

The canvas has been relined. The paint surface is largely secure with fine cracquelure throughout. Scattered retouchings are visible to the naked eye throughout, in particular to the embroidery of the sitter's cloak and the folds of the drapery. These retouchings are confirmed under UV inspection although thorough examination under UV light is impeded by the varnish. The painting is offered in an elaborate carved and gilt wood frame with some knocks and paint losses.
