The canvas has been relined. The paint surface is generally sound and has fine cracquelure throughout which is secured by the varnish. There are some old areas of paint loss which have been infilled and there are other scattered retouchings throughout which are visible to the naked eye. Inspection under UV light reveals scattered retouchings throughout, in particular to the top of the judge's wig and his forehead. Offered in a carved wooden frame in reasonable condition with some minor damages on all sides.
