Description

  • Hyacinthe Rigaud
  • a self-portrait
  • oil on canvas, in an elaborate carved and gilt wood frame

Condition

The canvas has been relined. The paint surface is generally sound although somewhat worn in areas and subsequently retouched, particularly in the darker background areas and the sitter's cap. The somewhat discoloured varnish prevents thorough inspection under UV light although some more recent retouchings in the background areas do fluoresce. Offered in a carved and gilt wood frame in fair condition with some knocks and paint losses.
