Description

  • Ecce homo
  • oil on canvas

Provenance

Sold, Paris, Hôtel Drouot, 21 February 1966, lot 88 (according to label on the reverse)

Condition

The Neapolitan canvas has been relined. The paint surface is largely secure, although the craquelure has lead to some scattered paint losses which have been subsequently infilled. The craqulure has now been secured by a thick varnish. Inspection under UV light reveals scattered retouchings throughout, particularly to the background and the Christ's robes, although thorough inspection is impeded by the varnish. Offered in a later wood and plaster frame with some losses.
