Description

  • Dirck van Baburen
  • A Portrait of the artist, half length, holding a flute
  • bears signature upper left: HBrugghen

  • oil on canvas, unframed

Condition

The canvas has been relined. The paint surface is largely secure and the craquelure is stabilised by a thick and yellow varnish. However, there are some small areas of restored damage upper right to the background and the retouching has somewhat discoloured. Thorough inspection under UV light is impeded by this masking varnish but areas of retouching are visible throughout. Unframed.
