Description

  • A landscape with a turkey, ducks and other fowl startled by a dog
  • oil on canvas, unframed

Condition

The canvas has been recently relined and the painting has been quite recently cleaned, restored and re-varnished. The paint surface is in overall good condition with no major wear or restoration. there is however a restored vertical tear in the upper left background (approx. 25cm in length). There are two horizontal seams running the full width of the canvas, one 25cm from the upper margin and the other approx. 20 cm from the lower margin; the canvas has split along much of the seams resulting in some paint loss. There are further very minor localised paint losses, for example on the back of the dog. Inspection under ultra-violet light reveals some restoration along the margins, a few scattered retouchings in the sky and only a few further retouchings and restorations, none more than 2 by 2 cm in area. The varnish layer is evenly applied. Sold unframed.
