Daniele Heintz Venice circa 1652 - 1710

The attribution is traditional, and has more recently been endorsed by Prof. Lino Moretti on the basis of photographs. Daniele Heintz was the son of the more famous painter Joseph Heintz the Younger (1600-1678), and like his father was active as a painter chiefly in Venice and the Veneto. His work is now rare. The present painting can, however, be directly compared to Heintz's signed version of the same subject today in the Bildergalerie, Sanssouci, Potsdam (for this and the fullest discussion of his oeuvre see R.
