Catalogue Note

Only after he moved to Genoa in 1604 and entered the workshop of Battista Paggi did Scorza begin to specialise as an animal painter. This work may be compared with his Orpheus charming the animals in a Genoese private collection (for which see La Pittura a Genova e in Liguria: dal Seicento al primo Novecento, Genoa 1987, p. 301, reproduced fig. 255).
