Catalogue Note

This is a workshop copy after Michele's original, now in Fiesole, Museo Bandini (see B. Berenson, Italian Pictures of the Renaissance. Florentine School, vol. I, London 1963, p. 149, reproduced vol. II, plate 1300). Michele's prototype differs slightly from this work, including the figure of Saint Joseph where here the landscape recedes behind and to the left of the figure group.
