Gaspar van den Hoecke Active in Antwerp 1595 - 1648

The attribution is due to Dr. Ursula Härting, who considers this a fully autograph work by Van den Hoecke, dating it to between 1610 and 1620. Another related treatment of the same subject, traditionally attributed to Frans Francken II,  is in the Museum in Tournai, but Dr. Härting believes that both this and the present painting are characteristic works by Van den Hoecke. A copy of the left hand section of this work sold London, Christie's, 17 December 1985, lot 78 (as Circle of Frans Francken the Younger).
