Catalogue Note

Formerly attributed to Alexander Keirincx (1600-1652). The attribution to Leytens is based on a comparison with the signed landscape formerly with Malmedé, Cologne, in 1936 (for which see P. Reelick, "Bijdrage tot Identificatie van der Meester der Winterlandschappen (G. Leytens?)", in Oud Holland, vol. LIX, 1942, p. 79, no. 16). Another landscape by the same hand was sold in Amsterdam, Christie's, 11 May 1994, lot 39 (as Attributed to Leytens). The figures are the work of a different hand, from the workshop or following of Frans Francken the Younger.
