"The following condition report has been provided by Henry Gentle, an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's. The original canvas is lined; the paint surface is slightly raised and in some places unstable and there has been recent small paint loss here. There are visible restored paint losses to the sky and the tree foliage ,upper right, and under U-V light a scattering of retouchings can be seen elsewhere e.g. the three figure group in the foreground. There is thinness to the paint layer in the background left leading to a slightly granular texture. The varnish is moderately discoloured."
