Condition
"The following condition report has been provided by Henry Gentle, an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's.
Both original canvases have been lined, these linings are old and have degraded. The paint surfaces are generally stable although raised in some areas. The red ground colour is visible through the thin paint in the skies of both paintings and there has been slight abrasion to the shadows and the darker passages where the canvas texture has broken through. The discoloured varnishes, if removed, would enhance the tonality. The overall condition of both paintings is good."
