Condition
"The following condition report has been provided by Henry Gentle, an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's.
Both original canvases have been lined and the paint layers are stable. Both paintings have visible discoloured retouchings to the skies and backgrounds, the ' figures resting' coming off slightly worse than 'travellers resting'. Both have retouched top stretcher marks and abrasions to the paint surface in the darker passages where slight canvas texture can be seen. Both paintings have discoloured varnishes masking the true tonality."
