Condition
"The following condition report has been provided by Henry Gentle, an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's.
The original canvas is lined ; this is old and degraded, there is a loss of tension and the paint surface is raised and vulnerable. The paint surface has been significantly abraded in the past and this is evident in the visible discoloured restoration to the sky where the surface has been compromised . Vulnerable scumbles and glazes have also been damaged and these have been noticeably augmented to disguise the prominence of the ground colour showing through. There is a discoloured varnish, its removal would enhance the tonality."
