Condition
"The following condition report has been provided by Henry Gentle, an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's.
The original canvas is lined. There is raised and unstable paint to the left hand edge and a restored damage to the right hand edge. Lower left, where the paint is most raised, has suffered some small paint loss. The tonality of the image would improve with removal of the varnish."
"This lot is offered for sale subject to Sotheby's Conditions of Business, which are available on request and printed in Sotheby's sale catalogues. The independent reports contained in this document are provided for prospective bidders' information only and without warranty by Sotheby's or the Seller."

Catalogue Note
This appears to be an early work by the artist and manifests the influence that Francesco Solimena had on the young Giaquinto. While there is no documentary evidence to suggest that he was actually a student of Solimena, several paintings from Giaquinto's formative years are modelled after Solimena's works; see, for example, Giaquinto's Visitation which is substantially copied from Solimena's altarpiece of the same subject for S. Maria Donnalbina.
