Description

- oil on canvas
Condition
"The following condition report has been provided by Henry Gentle, an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's.
The original canvas is lined, there is a retouched central seam. The canvas has lost tension resulting in deformation . There is a restored tear to the column base, left and the paint surface is raised and unstable in parts with one or two small paint losses and abrasions to the more vulnerable areas where the canvas weave is showing through the paint layer. There are visible restorations to the shadow of Darius' robe, through the shield, lower left and the seated woman's cloak, lower right. The varnish is degraded and discoloured and would enhance the tonality if it were removed."
