Condition

The catalogue illustration is representative. The canvas has been recently relined and the painting fairly recently restored. There are a number of restored damages, for example on Cupid's shoulder, Omphale's exposed arm and scattered throughout the background. There is a series of retouchings and restorations on Omphale's forehead and further retouchings throughout the flesh tones and background. Omphale's hair has been partly strengthened. the paint is a little thin around the background figures.Where it is in tact the paint surface is in fairly good condition. Sold with a 19th century plaster gilt frame. AF*
