"The following condition report has been provided by Henry Gentle, an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's. The original canvas is lined. There is one consolidated tear. The paint surface is stable, but raised, with slight stretcher marks . Through the thin paint of the sky and the angel's wing can be seen the dark ground. Under U-V light can be seen a small scattering of retouchings to the Madonna's neck and the angels wing. Some of the glazing to the shadows has been compromised. Removal of the discoloured varnish would improve tonality."

This appears to be a workshop replica of Moretto's original in the Pinacoteca di Brera, Milan (for which see P.V. Begni Redona, under Literature, p. 418, no. 103, reproduced).
