"The following condition report has been provided by Henry Gentle, an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's. The original canvas is lined. The paint layer is in good condition. There is a small scattering of retouchings to the dead birds and the background where the canvas weave has come prominently through the paint. A 1cm wide strip along the bottom has been restored along with the left hand edge in some parts. The impasto is in good condition and the paint generally un-abraded. There is a moderately discoloured varnish."
