Description
- Dutch and Spanish ships on calm seas
- a pair, both oil on copper
Condition
"The following condition report has been provided by Henry Gentle, an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's.
The panels are set in to oak trays and are in good condition. The paint layers on both panels are stable but there are paint losses to both layers which have been retouched out. Some of these retouchings have discoloured. There are abraded areas to both panels and the rigging of the ships has been compromised and augmented with restoration. The varnish on both panels is moderately discoloured. There is a pale spotting to the panel with the firing man-o-war . This spotting extends to the varnish only."
