"The following condition report has been provided by Henry Gentle, an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's. The original canvas has been lined. The paint layer is stable. There are visible discoloured retouchings in the foreground. The figures and tree branches have been augmented. The paint surface in the sky has been abraded and there are discoloured retouchings visible upper right. In some areas the red ochre ground is visible through the paint layer in the sky. The varnish is discoloured and its removal would enhance the overall tonality."
