"The following condition report has been provided by Henry Gentle, an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's. The copper panel is thin and there are restored damages to the lower left and right corners. The paint layer is mostly stable apart from some raised paint in the middle left area and previous pitting and blistering to the lower central carnation; there is some retouching here. The dark background is visibly abraded in some areas and augmented by restoration, and the red glazes on the flowers have been compromised. There is a discoloured and degraded varnish and its removal would improve the tonality."
