Circle of Jan Miel

"The following condition report has been provided by Henry Gentle, an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's. The original canvas is lined , the paint layer is stable. The paint layer is heavily abraded and compromised with damage to original scumbles and glazes. As a result there is extensive restoration to the sky but also to the fore and mid grounds. Under U-V light can be seen the remains of an old varnish. The paint surface has a thick , moderately discoloured varnish with inherent cracking. A tonal improvement would be achieved with its removal."
