Condition
"The following condition report has been provided by Henry Gentle, an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's.
The oak panel is cradled and extensively wax sealed on the reverse. The paint surface is raised in some areas and unstable with recent small losses. There are significant restored paint losses across the surface including the sky , the cross, the figures and the foreground. The red cloak of Mary Magdalene is extensively damaged and restored. The original blue pigment of the sky is abraded and the dark shrinkage cracks here have been reduced. If the discoloured and degraded varnish were removed the tonality would improve."
