Pieter I Claeissins Bruges 1499/1500-1576

"The following condition report has been provided by Henry Gentle, an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's. The oak panel has a central repaired join and there is evidence of worm damage to the reverse which has been repaired. The paint surface is in a stable condition. The central join has been retouched as have two small losses on the Madonna's face and the raised area to her chest caused by a wood knot. Elsewhere, under U-V light a small scattering of retouchings can be seen to the Madonna's right hand and red cloak and the sky upper right where original under drawing has been reduced. Fine scumbles and glazes to the Madonna's face have been compromised."
