Presumably Gustaf Adolf Sparre (1746-1794), but not identifiable in the 1794 inventory.

Condition

The catalogue illustration is representative. the bevelled panel is uncradled and flat. There is a restored horizontal split just above the lower edge, a horizontal split of c. 10 cm at the upper left and a smaller on at the centre left. There are some minor retouchings to the rooves, along the lower split and a few further but minor retouchings and strengthenings scattered throughout. The figures themselves are largely untouched. The paint surface is dirty and generally in a good state of preservation.

Catalogue Note

The probable original, signed in monogram, was in the Adolphe Scholss collection in Paris.1  A weaker copy with a large tree to the right was with J. Gans, The Hague (at an unknown date).
