Jan Frans van Bloemen, called l'Orizzonte Antwerp 1662 - 1749 Rome

The painting is yellower and more contrasted in tone than the catalogue illustration suggests. The canvas has a relatively old relining. The painting is dirty and the varnish discoloured. The paint surface is in very good condition overall. There are a couple of discoloured retouchings lower left and above the figures but these are tiny and insignificant. Minor losses occur on the tree trunk (3 by 3mm.), on the edge upper centre (0.5cm) and another in the sky upper left (2 by 2mm.) but, once again, these are extremely small. Bands of retouching are visible in the upper left corner and along the upper and right edges, but otherwise the painting is intact. No further restoration is visible under ultra-violet light. The modern plain gilt wood frame is in good condition.
