Description

  • A palace garden with figures dancing and making music
  • oil on oak panel

Provenance

Georg Schäfer collection, Schweinfurt;
Anonymous sale, Vienna, Dorotheum, 30 March 2000, lot 266.

Condition

The colours are a little richer than in the catalogue illustration. The oak panel is uncradled and has an old extension of 6.5 cms. to its top edge. The painting has recently been cleaned and restored and overall is in good condition.There have been some minor local retouchings to the seated man's costume in the centre, to the foreground foliage and to the shadows and trees on the left hand margin. The varnish is clear and even and the painting should not require further attention. This lot is offered with a modern parcel gilt and faux tortoiseshell frame in good condition. RCJ
