The canvas has been recently relined and is sound. The painting is in extremely good condition overall with only very minor interference. The paint surface is very well preserved and retains all the original detail, notably in the dog's face. There are some minor abrasions along the margins but otherwise the painting remains largely unaffected by age or restoration. The varnish layer is perhaps slightly discoloured. Sold with a modern gilt wood frame, in very good condition. AF*
