Condition

The catalogue illustration is paler than the original. The painting is on panel and not on canvas as stated in the catalogue. The painting has recently been cleaned and restored. The paint surface is overall in reasonable condition, but the upper margin has been much repainted, and there are two large restored damages of 2 x 4 cm. and 3 x 8 cm. in the sky. The trees and foliage are better preserved, with only intermittent local retouchings. A clump of trees on the far bank of the stream has been repainted. The varnish is clear and even and the painting should not require further attention. This lot is offered with a reproduction ebonised wood frame in the Dutch style in very good condition. RCJ
