Anonymous sale, Amsterdam, Sotheby's, 22 November 1989, lot 64, for Fl. 115,000 (as 'Herman van Swanevelt').
Condition
The catalogue illustration is too green. The canvas has an old relinign which is barely noticable and very sympathetic to the picture surface. The painting is in very good overall condition and has been recently cleaned, restored and re-varnished. There is a fairly large restored damage to the centre of the sky (approx. 5 by 7 cm) and another upper left, slightly smaller. Inspection under ultra-violet light reveals some minor retouching in the sky and only few, if any, retouchings to the landscape. This painting is very well preserved and is ready to hang.
Sold with a parcel gilt frame, in good condition.
