Exhibited
Brussels, Galerie Finck, 22 November - 15 December 1968.
Condition
The colours are purer and more vibrant than as shown in the catalogue illustration.
The support consists of a single oak panel which is bevelled along both vertical edges and cradled. The painting has been recently cleaned, restored and re-varnished. The paint surface is in very good condition overall. There is some retouching to the extreme upper centre and to the cornfield at the centre left. There is some fairly significant 'filling-in' of the craquelure to the foliage at the right and the line of trees along the horizon. Inspection under ultra-violet light reveals further small retouchings throughout. The figures have escaped restoration for the most part. This picture is in a good state of preservation overall.
Sold with a plain, modern ebonised wood frame.
