Condition
The colours are much brighter and more vibrant than as shown in the catalogue illustration.
The canvas has a fairly old lining which is sound. The paint surface is in good condition overall, although perhaps a little flat. There are three restored damages, all of which are in the upper background; in the upper centre there is a restored horizontal tear (approx. 7 cm), to its left is another small horizontal tear which is surrounded by an area of partly restored wear, and in the upper right is another small restored tear, again, around which lies some repair to the worn surface. There is a vertical dent in the central background but other than this there appears to be no further major damages, and indeed further interference is minimal. Inspection under ultra-violet light is inhibited iby the thick varnish layer, but does reveal a few small spot retouchings on top of the varnish to the left of the protaginist. This painting is in good overall condition.
Sold with an abonised wood frame, in good condition, but with a few losses to the decorative inlay.
