The catalogue illustration is a little too bright. The copper plate is cradled on the reverse and has a convex bow. The paint surface is extremely well preserved and the painting has undergone only minimal restoration. There is a damage above the donkey's head in the lower centre (2 by 2 cm), some minor retouchings to the far distance beyond the town, and also to an area in the sky above. Inspection under ultra-violet light reveals only few and minor further retouchings. Sold with a plaster and gilt frame, in good condition. AF*

For the attribution, compare the signed copper of similar size (66.5 by 92.5 cm.) depicting a Landscape with Diana and her nymphs hunting formerly on the Cologne art market in 1959, and later listed by Walther Bernt in a Luxembourg private collection (The Netherlandish Painters of the Seventeenth Century, London 1970, vol. III, no. 1082, reproduced).
